POSITION OVERVIEW

The Policy, Advocacy, and Research (PAR) Graduate Intern will report directly to a senior policy analyst and be primarily responsible for supporting our work on eligibility, coverage, and hardship gaps that serve as barriers in our public benefits system with research, data analysis, and coalition coordination. The intern will also be responsible for providing support on other tasks to FPWA’s policy team as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct research and data analysis (quantitative and qualitative) in support of our research on specific benefit programs;
  • Complete shorter-term research on policy, legislation, and other issue areas as needed;
  • Manage certain administrative functions (e.g. outreach to member agencies, coalitions, elected and appointed officials; and, database entry);
  • Coordinate and provide support on task force and coalition meetings, PAR special events, etc. on an as needed basis; and,
  • Provide other support to the policy team on an as needed basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & JOB SKILLS

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in public health, public policy, public administration, or a related field
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis on public policy issues
  • Experience in public policy research and analysis
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, with experience breaking down complex concepts and data concisely for various audiences
  • Deep commitment to social justice
  • Must be able to work 20-24 hours per week in a hybrid setting
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously on a deadline
  • Results oriented, flexible, creative, resourceful, energetic, hard-working, and unafraid of challenges
  • Team oriented with the ability to work independently
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative when appropriate
  • Experience with quantitative analysis of larger data sets is a plus.
