ABOUT DREAMWAKERS

As seen in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Forbes, DreamWakers is a national education nonprofit that harnesses technology to connect classroom learning to real-world careers. Believing kids can't be what they can't see, DreamWakers works to close the opportunity gap for students in under-resourced schools by providing them with the unique opportunity to meet professionals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and perspectives beyond their city limits. Through interactive virtual sessions via video chat, DreamWakers connects classrooms across the U.S. with dynamic role models in a wide array of professional sectors, shedding light on the real-world applicability of course lessons, while inspiring the next generation of leaders to envision and prepare for their own future.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

DreamWakers seeks two part-time interns for the Spring 2021 semester. Ideal candidates:

  • Are undergraduate or graduate students passionate about education equality, social innovation, and delivering opportunities for under-resourced students across America;
  • Bring exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Embrace a relentlessly positive and proactive attitude; 
  • Have strong attention to detail, commitment to high-quality work, and follow through on responsibilities;
  • Are self-motivated, able to work independently and in collaboration with team members;
  • Are able to commit to at least 20 hours/week during January to May; and
  • Bring a genuine commitment to the overall goals and vision of DreamWakers.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in:

  • Working in an education setting or with educators/students;
  • Social media and/or strategic communications;
  • Event planning and/or fundraising; and/or
  • Grant writing, business development, and/or development research.


POSITION DUTIES

Interns at DreamWakers get a first-hand look at how a growing edtech startup operates on a day-to-day basis. Our interns have the opportunity to learn about education innovation, digital media, nonprofit business operations, and more. Depending on interns’ skill sets and areas of interest, duties may include:

  • Flashchats​. Assist in hosting live virtual sessions directly with students, teachers, and world-class speakers; meticulously collecting and inputting impact data, providing flashchat summaries, recommending areas for improvement as necessary.
  • Social Media. Assist in the development of content for DreamWakers’ social media channels; research, develop, and implement new strategies to increase followers and post engagement; track and report on analytics.
  • Communications. Develop blog posts, newsletters, website content, and other communications materials.
  • Educator and Volunteer Recruitment​. Proactively seek to establish relationships with new educators and speakers; design and implement innovative recruitment campaigns to compel outstanding educators and career professionals to join the DreamWakers network.
  • Event Planning and Fundraising. Support the planning and execution of events and fundraising strategies. 
  • Curriculum​ Design. Create new extension activities to enhance the impact of our flashchats; improve upon and update current activities, lesson plans, and flashchat learning materials such as games.
  • Grants & Development​. Assist in the development of grant materials, fundraising pitches, and events.
  • Data Analytics. ​Support the life cycle of assessing and communicating DreamWaker’s short-term and long-term impact, including data collection, analysis, and presentation.
  • Administration. ​Support the ongoing administration of DreamWakers operational, administrative, and finance activities.
