$15.00 per hour - Non-Exempt – There are no medical, dental, or life insurance benefits, short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment, worker’s compensation, and social security.
12-15 hours per week

The American Friends Service Committee’s Internship Program is designed to engage students with the world of public service and peace and social justice issues. As an intern you will work alongside AFSC staff helping to implement current programs and achieve AFSC’s mission. You will work within a framework of a work plan and learning objectives with the opportunity to participate in activities such as client engagement and in-depth research. Upon completion of the internship, you will have the opportunity to reflect upon and evaluate your experience.

Summary of Principal Responsibilities

The Social Media and Communications Intern will work with the Immigrant Rights Program to create social media presence, post material and assist the Program in brainstorming social media campaigns. The intern will also train staff and volunteers on effective use of various social media platforms.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the Social Media and Communications Intern include the following:

1.    Support Immigrant Rights Program advocacy by sharing information about actions, projects, presentations, resources, etc. utilizing social media posting across such platforms as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

2.    Collect client stories and visuals of program work.

3.    Develop flyers for outreach to allies, clients and immigrant communities.

4.    Design digital newsletter for quarterly distribution, as well as periodic blog posts.

5.    Train staff and volunteers on social media outreach tools and strategies.

6.    Meet regularly with supervisors.

Qualifications:

1.    Strong interest in a just immigration system

2.    Experience in graphic and/or newsletter design.

3.    Familiarity and comfort with various social media platforms.

4.    Comfortable with spreadsheets.

5.    Fluency in a foreign language (Spanish preferred) in addition to English is a plus.

Other Required Skills and Abilities:

1.    Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.

2.    An ability to work independently and take initiative.
