Position Overview:

GreenLight Charlotte’s Fall intern will be involved in a variety of projects that support and enhance the organization’s nonprofit investments, communications, and development strategies, at the Charlotte site. The work focus for the fall intern will be assisting our diligence process through deep local landscape research. Additionally, the intern will support the site in the area of communications and there may be opportunities to support local community engagement conversations.

Key Projects & Responsibilities:

Community Engagement

  • Support communication engagement conversations through meeting attendance and note-taking if time and schedule permits;

 Research and Diligence

  • Research and identify local critical issue areas affecting low-wealth communities in Charlotte;
  • Create cohesive research material that demonstrates findings;
  • Prepare Selection Advisory Council meeting briefs and material showcasing the research on critical issues;
  • Research and build analyses of key community stakeholders for partnership in existing local communities;
  • Support donor and organization database management;

Communications

  • Assist with managing GreenLight Charlotte’s Twitter. Produce a content calendar of engaging content to increase Twitter following.
  • Update the GreenLight Charlotte sites’ webpage as needed.
  • Assist with newsletter communications to donors and supporters

Please note the following:

We are a small team and flexibility is important as other responsibilities may arise within these areas.

Due to Covid-19, this position is 100% remote. You will need to supply your own portable laptop to serve as your workstation, and might be asked to use a personal/mobile phone to cover some of your responsibilities.

Candidate Requirements:

  • An interest in nonprofit work and developing skills for a career in nonprofit management, business and nonprofit development, community development, economics, politics/policy, communication and/or marketing or any other related field.
  • A deep understanding of, or interest in, urban issues facing low-wealth communities;
  • Strong research skills;
  • Outstanding communication and technology skills;
  • Willingness to quickly learn and analyze new information;
  • Ability to take initiative and think creatively;
  • Flexibility, humor, and a passion for GreenLight’s mission and the City of Charlotte.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as urban studies, sociology, nonprofit management, education, business, community development, economics, political science, or other related fields.

Compensation: The pay is $15 per hour paid bi-weekly, part-time (minimum of 20 hours a week). Exact time/hours to be discussed after the start date.
