 Accepting Applications, January 2019 Community Development Intern, Atlanta Civic Site This spring 2019 internship is with the Community Economic Development and Neighborhood Transformation unit at the Atlanta Civic Site of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It provides an exciting opportunity to experience neighborhood-level community development work while working within a national foundation structure. The Atlanta Civic Site focuses on creating brighter futures for children and their families in six neighborhoods on the south side of the City of Atlanta, known as Neighborhood Planning Unit-V. The Atlanta Civic Site’s office is located in this area. The intern will be joining an 8-person staff team. The paid intern in this role is expected to commit a minimum of 12 hours per week between January 14, 2019 and May 10, 2018. Some work will occur on the evenings and weekends, but some weekday office hours are also necessary. Travel will not be required beyond local driving in the neighborhoods served. The intern must be currently enrolled as a college or university student, and graduate students are preferred. For more information on our work, please visit our website. Desired Candidates Should Have:

●Interest in neighborhood and/or community development;

●Interest in community engagement;

●Ability to manage multiple tasks;

●Ability to work independently;

●Excellent writing abilities; and

●Availability to work some evenings and weekends to attend community meetings and events.


Responsibilities during the semester may include, but will not be limited to, the following:

●Provide project management assistance for specific, time-limited initiatives, including communications with team members, documenting partner meetings, preparing presentations and handouts, tracking project timelines, tracking and entering project data and following up on action items;

●Draft articles and blog posts;

●Conduct background research for projects in the place-based funder field and summarize findings from reports and articles;

●Organize community workshops and support community tours – assisting with organizing speakers, preparing agendas, determining locations and selecting materials;

●Assist with community outreach and present information at community events;

●Participate in periodic community meetings and document proceedings;

●Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; and

●Participate in Neighborhood Transformation team meetings, report on progress, provide and receive feedback.
