Description

The Alliance to Save Energy is seeking Finance & Administration Intern to provide support to the Operations department. As a nonprofit organization, the Alliance to Save Energy receives funding from various sources: companies, foundations and government (federal/state/local). The Finance & Administration Intern will become familiar with the workings of a nonprofit finance department and assist with completing day-to-day finance tasks in a timely manner. The intern will also assist with other responsibilities of the Operations department, including human resources and facilities.


The internship begins June 18, 2018 and extends through August 31, 2018 at Alliance headquarters in Washington, DC. The position is paid ($13.25/hour), and sick leave is offered. Preference is for an intern who can commit to a full-time position. Part-time work (minimum 20 hours/week) will be considered, provided that a consistent schedule will be determined prior to the start date.


Primary Duties

Finance (80%):

  • Assist with general accounting (filing, entry level processing) 
  • Copy and scan financial documents
  • Assist with cash receipts entry
  • Assist with journal entries
  • Assist with grants/contracts transactions
  • Enter accounts payable vouchers
  • Maintain accounts payable files
  • Address vendor inquiries
  • Verify signatures on documents (finance approval forms, etc.)


Operations (20%):

  • Assist with other human resources and facilities matters, as needed
  • Assist to coordinate charitable registration filings with the states
  • Open/distribute mail
  • Assist with shifts at front desk reception (welcome guests, accept packages, answer phone calls)


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Obtained or obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Business Administration
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • MS Excel skills highly valued; database skills a plus
  • Ability to represent the organization on errands in a professional manner
  • Willingness to learn and help others on staff


Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior finance internship experience a plus
