Join our team as Resilience Fellow!

This is an excellent opportunity for professional development that provides valuable insights into a climate change career sector. The Resilience Fellow will provide critical professional support to our program team while gaining hands-on experience and individual mentorship. This is a part time (15-20 hours a week), temporary position (12 month contract).

The Resilience Fellow will be selected on a variety of criteria, including interests, education, experience, and knowledge of adaptation and mitigation strategies, community engagement, communications, and enthusiasm. Fellows participate in program team meetings, all-staff meetings, and any staff appreciation events offered during their session.

The Resilience Fellow will work with our program team department on strategic campaigns to make the bay area more resilient. Among other responsibilities, you’ll help evaluate and analyze local climate policies like Climate Action Plans, General Plans and Hazard mitigation plans, collaborate with partner organizations, draft compelling content for our website, attend public meetings, and help develop online action alerts.

The Resilience Fellow will work directly with the Director of Climate Resilience to assist with implementation of a new Greenbelt Alliance project focused on providing resources to equip local advocates, city/county staff and elected officials with the policies and strategies they need to make their communities more resilient, focused on Contra Costa County in the Bay Area. This project will help build capacity to align Climate Action Plans, General Plans and other local jurisdiction policies around carbon sequestration, sea level rise and wildfire. This project will be piloted in Contra Costa County, so previous awareness or connection to the county would be beneficial, although not required.

The Resilience Fellow will have the opportunity to attend city council meetings, track general plan processes, interact with local elected officials, city staff, and community leaders in close collaboration with Greenbelt Alliance partners and experts.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research and analysis on sea level rise and other climate impacts with supervision provided by Greenbelt Alliance staff
  • Contribute to staff research and analysis of existing resources around general plans/climate action plans
  • Attend city council and planning commission meetings, speak on behalf of Greenbelt Alliance
  • Help coordinate local stakeholder meetings
  • Greenbelt Alliance program team activities through an enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to engage in intellectual debate.
  • Willingness to pitch in at all levels

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Interest or background experience in climate resilience, sea level rise or similar field.
  • Commitment to upholding environmental justice principles in outreach and writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to think critically and work independently.
  • Willingness to learn and pitch in at all levels.
  • Familiarity with Contra Costa County would be ideal but not required
