ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing the scale and effectiveness of impact investing around the world.

Impact investing is one of the most important social innovations of our time, and interest in it is exploding. The GIIN, now nearly ten years old and backed by leading funders such as The Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, USAID, the UK Department for International Development, Prudential, and J.P. Morgan, has a growing membership network of over 330 members across 48 countries. The GIIN works to mobilize a global network of leading financial institutions and others to dramatically increase the amount of capital being deployed effectively to social and environmental issues around the world. ABOUT THE POSITION:

The GIIN is widely recognized for providing high-quality practitioner-oriented insights into the impact investing market and state of practice, helping to bridge critical knowledge gaps facing actors across the ecosystem. Key research themes include market activity and trends, financial and impact performance, and impact measurement and management. The GIIN conducts both qualitative and quantitative research using primary and secondary data collection methods and manages projects both in-house and via external partners. We are currently seeking a Summer Associate to join the Research team.

The Summer Associate will execute on discrete portions of research projects, contributing substantially to the team’s work. Some sample projects include:

• Conducting desk research on impact investments to support research projects (e.g. such as the impact performance studies)

• Conducting quantitative analysis using Excel on impact investors’ performance and activities  

• Interviewing impact investors and producing synthesized findings for spotlights

• Supporting the production of additional research products (e.g. this could include spin-off products for the 2020 Annual Impact Investor Survey or a faith-based investing case study)

• Additional responsibilities as needed

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The Summer Associate must be an analytical, organized, resourceful, and responsible individual with a high degree of professionalism. The Summer Associate must also be flexible, adaptive, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated research experience and an interest in impact investing. 

Requirements:

• Strong conviction that investment capital can effectively address social and environmental challenges

• Currently pursuing a graduate/advanced degree in related field (e.g. Business, Economics, Finance, International Development, Policy)

• Strong quantitative analysis skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with STATA a plus

• Strong qualitative analysis (e.g. interviews, literature reviews)

• Strong writing skills, including ability to synthesize and effectively communicate complex ideas

• Strong problem solving, and critical and creative thinking skills; a proactive approach to solving problems

• A basic interest in the world of investing and capital markets is helpful

• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

• Detail-oriented, with high standards of performance 

• Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite

• Personable, engaging presence, with diplomacy, tact, and good humor

• Must have work authorization in the U.S.

Summer position (May to August); flexible, entrepreneurial culture. This position will be based in New York, NY.
