WhyHunger is seeking a motivated and passionate intern to assist the Nourish Network for the Right to Food program in supporting programmatic initiatives at the intersection of hunger, health and poverty.

The Nourish Network for the Right to Food works with emergency food providers, food access organizations, community health organizations and other grassroots and national allies to transform the charitable response to hunger in the U.S. into a more equitable and inclusive social justice movement that recognizes nutritious food as a human right.

The National Hunger Hotline and Find Food Database refers people in need across the U.S. to food pantries, soup kitchens, summer meals sites, government nutrition programs and model grassroots organizations.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Database and Hotline Manager, the Nourish Network Intern will assist in conducting research for programmatic activities, supporting event coordination and logistics, doing data entry, and participating in writing and interview projects.

Projects include:

• Help answer calls on the WhyHunger Hotline.

• Help maintain WhyHunger’s Find Food database, by cleaning and updating records.

• Research new food pantries, soup kitchens and food access organizations for the database.

• Research new forms of food assistance throughout the United States.

• Conduct outreach to food banks to create partnerships in support of the database.

• Assist in regional and national event logistics.

• Research capacity building resources for Nourish Network partners.

• Small writing assignments and interviews.

• Research the intersection of hunger and health and social determinants of health.

• Help to create and maintain content for Nourishing Change newsletter and the Nourish Network section
