$15 per hour, 20 hours per week, January-June 2020

Position Summary

The APHL Environmental Health Intern provides general support to the environmental health program, in particular, activities around lead and human biomonitoring. The environmental health intern reports to the manager, environmental health.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist with reviewing respondents from a Request for Proposals to provide mini-grants to state laboratories for enhancing and reinvigorating state lead testing and/or biomonitoring programs
  2. Support the Environmental Health Committee and the National Biomonitoring Network Steering Committee regarding work around lead and biomonitoring
  3. Work with Manager, Environmental Health to shape agendas
  4. Track and follow through on action items between calls
  5. Prepare lead-related documents and resources
  6. Work with Manager, Environmental Health, to develop webinars on topics related to lead and/or human biomonitoring
  7. Write blog post
  8. Aid Manager, Environmental Health in writing fact sheets on lead and/or human biomonitoring topics
  9. Create plan for 2021 National Biomonitoring Meeting Planning Committee
  10. Review and summarize 2019 post-meeting survey feedback
  11. Draft NBM Agenda and timeline for planning committee
  12. Draft RFP for hosting 2021 meeting
  13. Provide administrative support to the environmental health team
  14. Aid in maintaining and updating the APHL Environmental Health SharePoint site
  15. Draft and submit weekly e-updates when applicable
  16. Take notes at environmental health team meetings and summarize action items
  17. Update and refresh environmental health webpage on aphl.org
  18. Attend APHL environmental health program team meetings
  19. Attend meetings to gain a better understanding of the role APHL and public health laboratories play in the public health sphere
  20. Additional duties as assigned

Employment Standards- Education and Experience

Bachelors degree and/or Masters degree in science or public health field preferred.

Knowledge

Knowledge of chemistry, toxicology, and environmental health preferred.

Skills

Skills preferred: document writing; laboratory preparation; and project management.

Abilities

Abilities preferred include: written and oral communications, integrity, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data.
