Marketing Assistant

Sojourners is an ecumenical Christian media and advocacy organization that works toward social and racial justice. We are looking for someone who can combine their interests in social justice, sales or marketing, and faith to contribute to underwriting the mission of the organization through advertising and marketing. 

NOTE: This position is offered as part of our year-long fellowship program which takes place from August 15, 2022, to August 4, 2023. Participants live in intentional community, group housing in Washington. D.C. Sojourners provides all housing, meal, local commuting, and health insurance expenses. Each fellow receives a $350 monthly stipend (after tax) and $1500 upon successful completion of the program. To learn more visit: sojo.net/fellowship

The Marketing Assistant supports a team the works to generate non-restricted revenue for Sojourners through advertising and subscriptions and general marketing to expand awareness of and impact of Sojourners mission. 

Responsibilities, Advertising Sales Support:  

• Coordinate ads for magazine production, assist with planning and proofing magazine layouts, particularly special sections relevant to the advertising department such as Great Reads 
• Upload web ads to Google Ad Manager (GAM) and newsletter ads to email templates 
• Utilize GAM and email platform to run digital ad performance reports, compile into a spreadsheet (Excel) and deliver to Advertising Sales Manager 
• Create email messages using HTML code provided by advertisers for sponsored emails; troubleshoot and correct errors as necessary until final approval is received by advertiser 

Responsibilities, Magazine Circulation:  

• Create email messages using templates and HTML to promote subscriptions to Sojourners 
• Respond to direct subscriber questions and concerns. This includes email, phone, and written correspondence from customers and agents 
• Learn the Cambey & West database and work with the outside fulfillment house to resolve customer service issues 
• Process magazine refund requests monthly 
• Fulfill magazine premiums and magazine claims weekly; and manage shipping supplies 

Responsibilities, Marketing:  

• Upload in-house ads to the website, manage in-house email newsletter ads 
• Submit invoices and reimbursement forms to Anybill on behalf of the marketing team 
• Represent Sojourners at conference exhibitions 

Skills: The ideal candidate is someone with a sharp attention to detail, who is a problem solver and can work both in a team environment and independently 

• Strong attention to detail 
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and adhere to deadlines 
• Thoughtful and effective verbal and written communication skills 
• Previous experience in sales or customer service 
• MS Office proficiency in Word and Excel 
• Photoshop and graphic design experience a plus but not required 

Personal and Professional Development: In this position, the Assistant will gain experience in digital marketing, customer service, and nonprofit management. This position will develop and strengthen problem-solving and communication skills.
