The Position

The National Women’s Law Center’s Legal Network for Gender Equity and TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund team is seeking a highly qualified intern for the Spring of 2021. This part-time internship will be 12 to 15 hours per week and available between January and May (start and end dates are flexible). This is a credit-based internship opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student with a focus on trauma-informed direct services work.

*Please note: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this internship opportunity will be 100% remote.

The Organization

The National Women’s Law Center fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in our society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls.

We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us — especially those who face multiple forms of discrimination, including women of color, LGBTQ people, and low-income women and families.

This position is with the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund and the Legal Network for Gender Equity projects at NWLC. The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund and the Legal Network for Gender Equity help individuals facing sex discrimination and harassment in education, the workplace, and as a patient connect with attorneys.

Intern Responsibilities

●       Respond to requests via email and phone from workers facing sex discrimination and harassment by providing them with names of attorneys in the Legal Network as well as information the process for obtaining support;

●       Help draft monthly newsletters for attorneys in the Legal Network;

●       Research and assemble additional resources for workers reaching out to TULDF;

●       Help manage and explore other outreach strategies to recruit attorneys to the network; and

●       Assist the team with day-to-day logistics.

Intern Qualifications

The ideal intern will possess:

●       Prior experience working on hotlines or other direct services with communities in need;

●       Strong oral and written communication skills;

●       Strong research and administrative skills;

●       Experience working with people with diverse backgrounds and socio-economic classes preferred;

●       Detail-oriented and able to manage several tasks at once;

●       Willingness to work both independently and in a team setting in a fast-pace work environment; and

●       Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
