Paz Oaxaca is an non-profit located in Oaxaca, Mexico, dedicated to promoting peace, equity, and sustainability in our community. We create and support community programs that are equitable and accessible to all, regardless of income or background. We currently support a Dual Language Montessori program, an after-school program, a community clothing exchange, a community library, and a community garden, and are in the process of developing many more programs. We are supported by our Texas-based 501.c(3), which was formed to support our Oaxacan branch and other socially conscious and community support programs in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Summer interns will work in many or all of our programs and will have the opportunity to learn teaching, gardening, construction, fundraising, project development and coordination, and many more skills.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Hours: 30-40 per week, 4-5 days per week. We work with the interns to develop an individualized program that is beneficial to both the intern and Paz. Here are some of the ways that Paz Oaxaca Interns get involved:

Work with Students: Paz & Play, our after-school program for underserved students; Dual Language Montessori; Special programs (such as arts, gardening, language program, etc.)

Collaborate with our Community Programs: Run the Clothing Exchange; Manage the Community Gardens; Set up the MakerSpace; Help in the Library; Begin a support program for young families

Fundraise and Community Outreach: Find, write, and/or proofread grants; Work with our donor database and help build new fundraising campaigns; Build our social media connections and integrate online tools to connect with donors and families interested in Paz; Coordinate and facilitate volunteer trips

Other: Assistant with administrative tasks, social media, proofreading, data entry and analysis

Preferred Additional Requirements

  • College studies or equivalent
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Experience living abroad
  • Experience volunteering for non-profit organizations
