Overview

Brookline Interactive Group and the Public VR Lab is looking for interns for 2020-21! Work with state-of-the-art traditional and emerging media equipment! Gain valuable hands-on experience, learn from a fun and supportive staff, and be a part of an active non-profit organization with a focus on community-based dialogue, media and engagement!

You will have an opportunity to work with state-of-the-art traditional and emerging media equipment, gain valuable hands-on experience, learn from a fun and supportive staff, and be a part of an active non-profit organization with a focus on community-based dialogue, media and engagement. We’re excited to support interns and their goals around collaborative workflow processing, project management, and mentor interns as they move to full- time professional work.

Interns work 8-12 hours a week for 200 hours, but we can be flexible for college course requirements.

Interns work 8-12 hours a week for 200 hours, but we can be flexible for college course requirements. Salaries not offered for internships but benefits include:

  • Annual BIG Membership with access to Studio, Field, Editing and VR Equipment (value $100),
  • BIG Classes (value up to $250),
  • Access to cutting edge VR equipment, and our innovative storytelling and production classes, 
  • Professional support and mentoring from staff,
  • Professional development opportunities outside of BIG such as local conferences,
  • This is an unpaid, job-training-focused internship.

VR/XR Internship

Work with the first publicly funded VR/XR Lab to make VR more accessible. Explore the artistic, technical and social implications of immersive technologies such as 360 degree video, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and extended reality (XR). Fellowships available for highly experienced individuals wishing to focus on a specific project.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student studying emerging media, communications, software/gaming development, or a related field
  • Experience on VR/AR/XR projects in and outside the classroom
  • Experience with 360 production and/or Ambisonic sound production, or coding for emerging media in tools such as Unity, A-frame, or experience un user interface.
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work on projects related to VR/AR/XR
  • Assist with field, or editing productions as assigned
  • Assist with VR Open House demos and other VR engagement events
  • Solicit diverse interviews for ArrivalVR projects
  • Assist in teaching VR workshops
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours


Production Internship

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in Visual Arts, Media Technology, Production, Film Studies, Broadcast Journalism or related field
  • Video production experience
  • Knowledge of editing software (Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut)
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with field productions: set-up audio, lighting, video equipment and operate camera
  • Assist with studio productions: set-up cameras, lighting, audio, sets and direct production
  • Edit productions in Adobe Premiere: create graphics, music, master audio, color correction, export, compress, and create DVDs


Graphic Arts Internship

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student studying graphic design or animation
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite
  • Experience with editing and/or motion software
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours

Responsibilities Include:

  • Create promotional print materials such as flyers, banners, brochures, etc.
  • Design and produce TV graphics and motion graphics for television productions
  • Design web graphics and edit web pages for our website
  • Design graphics for social media
  • Assist with television productions when needed
  • Develop marketing materials for workshops and events


Social Media and Marketing Internship

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student studying communications, PR, marketing, or a related field
  • Develop marketing, social media strategies or communications projects outside the classroom
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours


Responsibilities Include:

  • Organize BIG’s booth presence at public events to increase brand awareness 
  • Assist with event planning for monthly awareness events
  • Cultivate and create content for BIG’s online blogs/social media accounts that generate buzz for upcoming programs and organizational initiatives
  • Provide customer service through greeting members and answering phones
  • Assist with productions as assigned
  • Create media promos and distribute to a variety of news and social media sources
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours


Fundraising and Grant-writing Internship

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student studying development, grant-writing, fundraising or a related field
  • Experience on development/fundraising projects in or outside the classroom
  • Experience writing grants, and/or have excellent writing skills
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interact in an efficient and positive manner
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours

Responsibilities Include:

  • Research grants and grant-writing tools
  • Assist with writing and applying for grants to fundraise for organization initiatives
  • Assist with generating donation and cultivating donors
  • Help manage events and fundraisers
  • Willingness to work some weeknight and weekend hours
