If you are an aspiring adventure filmmaker, recreation manager, travel planner, nature guide, outdoor instructor, or storyteller, this might be a good fit for you. 

We are looking for an intern who can create and lead outdoor recreation skills workshops, events, and/or programs. Our primary focus will be engaging the public with outdoor skills over digital platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, etc. 

Responsibilities include live videos, synchronous/asynchronous learning, instructional content creation, remote/onsite event planning and leadership. Activities include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, climbing/ropework, canoeing, kayaking, and wilderness medicine. 

We have an immediate opening for a fall, winter, spring, summer internship. Timeframe is negotiable. The starting date could be as soon as possible and conclude either by the holidays or extend through summer break. Full-time and/or part-time, onsite and/or remote work, depending on the availability and fit of the intern. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

    •  Super passionate about nature, travel, outdoor recreation, and leadership

    •  Active on social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, etc.

    •  Must be 21 years of age or older

    •  Possession of valid driver’s license  

    •  Must have experience with and ability to use smartphone, including but not limited to social media platforms, digital cameras, G Suite Apps, etc. 

    •  Pass a criminal background check and receive a clean Central Registry Clearance from the State of Michigan Department of Human Resources

    •  Must have good written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and positively with GO•REC vendors, customers, employees, volunteers and the public at large


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:  

    •  Coordinate with team to schedule educational events & content to grow engagement

    •  Assist with day-to-day creation & leading of events, service, messaging

    •  Assists communications team with promotional materials and social media content to promote outdoor programs

    •  If onsite, could assist facilities staff with oversight of reservations requests, providing exceptional service and problem solving for guests.

    •  Reinforce high level of safety  

    •  Brainstorm, research, and develop new programs  

    •  Manage multiple projects as needed

    •  Any and all other duties as assigned by the GO•REC Director


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:  

    •  Strong skills in outdoor leadership and participating in outdoor activities.

    •  Active on social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, etc.

    •  Must be able to work on multiple tasks and be flexible with changes in project priorities


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    •  Currently enrolled in college and working towards a Bachelor's or Associate’s Degree

    •  Certifications in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, AED, (Wilderness) Lifeguarding, etc. 

    •  Membership in WEA, AORE, AEE, etc. 


WORKING CONDITIONS:

    •  Frequent remote digital work, including Zoom staff meetings.

    •  May occasionally be asked to travel and work a flexible schedule that will vary from week to week and season to season, including holidays. 

    •  If onsite, will work within and around GO•REC. Free housing may be available. 

    •  An open and flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends

    •  Work can be within a building but will also include the following: offices, grounds, woods, waterfronts, areas at height, and various program areas at GO•REC

    •  Exposure to various forms of machine noise

    •  Exposure to extreme cold conditions or warm conditions when working outside in the winter and summer months


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    •  Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. 

    •  Must be able to drive vehicles owned and operated by GO•REC

Benefits

The internship includes a $4000 stipend spread hourly across the period of their internship. Additionally, interns have the opportunity to participate in training/professional development at reduced or entirely subsidized cost, depending upon need. Free housing may be available.
