Development Intern – New York nonprofit for youth development

Little Flower Children and Family Services is offering an 8-week paid summer internship in its fast-paced Development department. It is embarking on an ambitious three-year fundraising plan to increase private funding and launch innovative youth and community programming.

For over 87 years, Little Flower has transformed caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and developmentally disabled adults in need in New York City and across Long Island. 

The development internship is ideal for someone who is interested in learning from cutting-edge fundraising professionals.

Internship functions:

Under the guidance of the Development Manager, the Development Intern’s responsibilities include:

Database Strategy

Research and provide analysis of existing donor base

Research and provide analysis of donor management software programs

Database Management

Plan and execute data clean-up projects

Create best practices for data collection

Correct and maintain accurate records and files

Input new and modify existing data

Support the Vice President and Development Manager

Conduct donor research

Identify and create pathways to engage donor prospects

Prepare reports, correspondence, memos, etc., as required

Desired skills and experience:

  • Excellent research, analytical and project management skills
  • Sound ability to work in Excel and manipulate data
  • Quick learner, confident, self-motivated and outgoing
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Conscientious and hard-working Intern candidates must be willing to work independently and as part of a team


Superior written, and verbal skills required

  • Some development experience preferred
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge preferred
  • Understanding of poverty-related issues and a commitment to creating new opportunities for inner-city youth.

The internship starts June 1, 2018 through August 31, 2018. The hourly rate will be $12-$15 based on experience working 32 hours per week.
