Job title: Conferences and Events Intern

Location: New York City

Application Deadline: October 1, 2018

Internship Details: Full-time or part-time interns considered for internship running end of August through December, with possibility of extension.

Overview of the Human Rights Foundation: HRF is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies. Our work includes effective campaigns to free political prisoners, world-class events such as the Oslo Freedom Forum, and programs such as Flash Drives for Freedom that publicize human rights violators and directly support dissidents and human rights defenders at risk.

Responsibilities: The event intern will work closely with the Oslo Freedom Forum team on event coordination related to the second annual Oslo Freedom Forum in New York, which will take place September 17, 2018, as well as other events hosted by HRF, including the Oslo Freedom Forum in Taiwan on November 10, 2018. Main tasks will include conference logistics, as well as drafting social media posts and researching speakers and performers. There will also be administrative tasks related to the forum.

Requirements: The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, and passionate about promoting human rights in closed societies and gaining experience in event planning and execution. The Oslo Freedom Forum is a truly exceptional conference and as such, sound judgment, attention to detail, an ability to work under pressure, and a sense of humor are imperative. A background in design, editing, or media is a plus, as is fluency in Spanish or Mandarin.

Benefits

$1,000/month for full-time availability. We are looking to fill a full-time internship, but if you are a great fit and can only do part-time work because of class commitments, you will be considered.

How To Apply

Please familiarize yourself with the Oslo Freedom Forum website and watch a few talks from previous forums. Then, send a cover letter, resume, and two suggestions for potential speakers at the forum to jobs@oslofreedomforum.com with the subject line “Conferences and events internship application.” When suggesting speakers, please include a paragraph description of the speaker and why you think he or she would be a good fit for the conference. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will only be contacted if they are selected for an interview.
