Maryland Nonprofits is the primary resource for advice and assistance on nonprofit management issues for the state’s nonprofit community. We help nonprofits to build their capacity and better reach their missions. Multiple internship opportunities are available for the spring semester. All internship positions are unpaid, but Maryland Nonprofits will collaborate with your university to provide class credit.

Consulting and Strategic Engagement Intern 

The Maryland Nonprofits Consulting Group (a program of Maryland Nonprofits) is the largest and most highly qualified consulting team in the state devoted to nonprofits. We work cooperatively with a staff team of four consultants, including legal counsel, plus a cadre of Associate Consultants with specialized expertise in the nonprofit sector including strategic planning, business planning, resource development planning, fundraising coaching, research and development, organizational development, governance capacity building. The Consulting and Strategic Engagement Intern will assist the Department of Consulting and Strategic Engagement with research, administrative tasks, and communications. The intern should have a basic understanding of nonprofit operations; knowledge and skill conducting research; and strong organizational and communication skills.

Marketing and Communications Intern 

The Maryland Nonprofits Marketing and Communications team is responsible for all traditional and digital marketing across the organization. An array of tools are employed including Canva, Mailchimp, Salesforce, Box, Hootsuite, Trello, Wordpress, VoterVoice, InDesign, Publisher, and others as needed. The Marketing and Communications Intern's responsibilities will include: social media management; creating e-blasts; supporting with website management; assistance with marketing efforts for programs and events; and a variety of other substantive tasks as needed. The intern should have a basic understanding of and a strong interest in marketing, communications, website management, blogging, and social media, as well as a passion for social service.

Nonprofit Governance and Management Intern 

The Standards for Excellence Institute, a program of Maryland Nonprofits which is implemented nationally, promotes the highest standards of ethics, effectiveness, and accountability in nonprofit governance, management, and operations. The Institute publishes resources and offers training to help all nonprofit organizations meet these high benchmarks. The Nonprofit Governance and Management Internship focuses on?writing, editing, and research through the lens of nonprofit best practices. The intern should have a keen interest in learning more about nonprofit management and governance and an interest in pursuing a career in nonprofits. The intern will gain a greater understanding of nonprofit management, particularly in terms of the best practices in the areas of mission, program evaluation, board governance, conflicts of interest, human resources (staff and volunteer), financial and legal issues, openness and disclosure, fundraising, and public policy and public affairs. Among other duties, the intern will conduct research and draft written educational/training program materials, blog posts, and other content.
