Boston Program Intern- Fall 2022

The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) promotes sustainable and equitable transport worldwide. ITDP is a nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City with offices in Africa, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States. ITDP is seeking an Intern based in the Boston office to work on a variety of projects related to the program’s bus transformation and BRT initiatives in the metro Boston area. The intern will report to the U.S. Director and work closely with all members of the U.S. program team. ITDP strives to integrate interns into our daily operations, with the expectation that the Intern will provide meaningful support to our ongoing projects while gaining valuable experience and education in the field. Therefore, an availability of 10-15 hours per week is required.

This position will last from September 2022 to December 2022 and may be extended into the next academic year depending on academic eligibility. ITDP is working in a hybrid work model, and the internship will be a combination of remote and in office work. Availability to work in our Boston office and attend events in the Boston area is required.

A stipend is available of $200 per week for 10 hours and $300 per week for 15 hours. A computer will be provided during the internship if needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct research on sustainable transport best practices and policies, particularly bus priority and bus rapid transit (BRT).
  • Conduct literature reviews and outreach related to data collection.
  • Assist the U.S. program in data compilation and analysis, GIS mapping, creation of surveys and other tasks, as needed.
  • Contribute to the internal ITDP public transit and urban mobility analytics community of practice.
  • Assist with communicating technical findings to a lay audience.
  • Assist with workshops and events both in-person and virtually, as needed.
  • Attend meetings with local agencies and stakeholders, as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with interest or experience in international development, sustainable transportation, urban planning or a related field.
  • Strong commitment to advancing ITDP’s mission, advocating for environmental and social justice.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced office and ability to multi-task.
  • Must be enthusiastic and a self-starter.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.
  • Strong internet research skills.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Database experience.
  • Adobe Design Suite experience.
  • HTML, CMS Platform and GIS experience a plus.
  • Additional language skills a plus.
  • Must be able to work 10-15 hours a week and commit through December 2022. Hours are flexible between 9am and 6pm.
  • Must be available to work in our Boston, MA office and attend events in the Boston area.
