Seeds of Peace
Summer 2018 Internships
Seeds of Peace, a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to empowering teenagers from regions of conflicts with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence, is looking for full-time and part-time interns to work with the development, communications, and finance departments of the organization.
The internship duration spans from May to August. All internship candidates will be considered as part of the general pool and then interviewed and assigned to specific departments as specified by the applicant and as deemed appropriate by the organization.
Location: New York, NY
Requirements: Candidates must be current college/graduate students or recent graduates with experience working in an office environment. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), are essential. Applicants must have excellent writing and oral communication skills, strong research skills, and knowledge of the Internet. We expect interns to be detail-oriented, organized, and willing to perform a number of different tasks that may vary from day to day. In addition, Seeds of Peace seeks individuals that are able to work independently and take initiative in the workplace. Knowledge of the Middle East and/or South Asia preferred; Hebrew, Arabic, Urdu, or Hindi a plus.
Applicants who intend to receive college credit for this internship must make arrangements with their college/university. Seeds of Peace is not responsible for acquiring academic credits for interns.
Responsibilities: The intern will work directly with staff members of the respective department in the New York office.
Internship Descriptions by Department:
Development – Development (fundraising) interns will focus on various aspects of the department. This position entails assisting with grant solicitation, including researching potential funders, grant writing and reporting, and correspondence. Interns will assist in writing language for large and small scale fundraising campaigns, researching perspective donors, creating donor recognition opportunities, syncing our online and print strategies and overall strategy. Interns will have a broad overview of grant making, grant-seeking strategy, and corporate giving and social responsibility.
In addition, some interns may be asked to help in our database department. Intern(s) will be responsible for data entry and data modifications through our online database, Raiser’s Edge.
Communications – Must be a strong writer to assist in drafting press releases, media advisories, newsletters, other printed marketing materials and web updates. This internship involves having a general understanding of a number of different social media outlets, including Facebook and Twitter, to strengthen Seeds of Peace’s social media presence and further develop the Seeds of Peace online community. The communication intern's responsibilities include:
- Blog coordinating of interviews, ghostwriting, editing
- Transcribing livestreams
- Emails to media outlets
- Answering Facebook DMs
- Photo curation of archival pics
- Building following on Instagram and twitter
- Website edits via Wordpress
Finance – Finance interns will perform a number of tasks related to bookkeeping and accounting. They will learn how to use the Financial Edge software, and will enter financial data including vendor invoices and journal entries. Furthermore, finance interns will work with various types of spreadsheets, learn to do invoice coding, budgeting and schedule reconciliation. Daily tasks will include cash deposit and credit card donations processing, filing of paperwork and more. If candidates are able to start earlier than May, please let us know.
