Development Intern

The American Academy in Rome, the oldest American overseas center for advanced research and practice in the arts and humanities, seeks an advanced undergraduate or graduate intern for its development office in New York for autumn/winter 2021. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in arts, education, or nonprofit administration to learn about development processes and to gain hands-on experience working in a fast-paced, international office environment.

The position offers training in Raiser’s Edge fundraising database software, research for varied audiences and fundraising practices including individual, foundation and corporate donors, as well as insight into governance, special events, and communications. Opportunities for design and visual communication may also be available.

Supervision

This position reports to the Vice President for Development and takes direction from the Associate Director of Development, Institutional Giving and Director of Individual Giving. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of reports and donor proposals
  • Research individual and institutional donor prospects
  • Database work, including input, analysis and reporting
  • Various administrative tasks as assigned
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Individual must be detail oriented, resourceful, organized, dependable, punctual, have excellent written and oral communication skills and computer skills, and be capable of maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Current undergraduate or graduate students with a background in art history, arts administration, or development.
  • Available for the full terms and hours of the internship.
  • Beginner/Intermediate design skills and/or Adobe or InDesign experience a plus

    Duration: October–March 2021 (dates flexible), 2 days per week (approximately 14 hours per week). Autumn/Winter 2021-22

Per Academy protocols for Covid-19, employees may work from home until further notice. Therefore, the internship will be remote. If any work is required in the office, the intern will report to work at the Academy’s NYC office on 7 E 60th St.
