The Partnership for Public Service is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with a big mission: we’re working to ensure the federal government is dynamic, innovative and that it effectively serves the American people. We’ve got a great team that helps make it happen.

Our staff is diverse in experience and perspective, but at our core, we share a lot of the same traits. We are mission-driven, creative, collaborative, optimistic and inclusive.

Our work is strategic, fast-paced and guided by our values:

  • Passion for public service and our work toward a more effective government
  • People who promote a culture of learning, leadership, collaboration, inclusion and respect
  • Persistence to drive change, take strategic risks and deliver results
  • Promise to be trustworthy, nonpartisan and fiscally responsible

We hire smart and friendly people who are great at what they do and good to one another in the process. Are you ready to join our team?

You may only submit one internship application per term. Applicants submitting more than one application per term will not be considered.

If you have a strong interest in multiple teams, you may indicate your alternate team preferences later in the application. Please note that selecting multiple teams does not increase your likelihood of being selected for an internship.

The Operations team plays a critical role in supporting the Partnership’s people and projects, enabling teams to further our mission to make the federal government more effective. As part of the Operations team, the HR and Operations intern will have a unique opportunity to support the organization’s project management, technology platforms, human resources and talent acquisition processes.

The HR and Operations intern will support our talent acquisition process from creation of position descriptions through hiring and onboarding of new employees. Specifically, the intern will work directly with the HR and Operations Associate to organize and re-brand hiring resources, create and update candidate communications and interview questions, and prepare new employee onboarding materials. The intern will support broader talent management through the creation and maintenance of position descriptions for positions across the organization.

The Operations and HR intern will support the Human Resources and Operations team more generally through administrative work, such as updating documents, organizing and creating resources, and maintaining records.

The intern will also provide operational support to our Senior Manager for Technology Platforms through conducting research on new technology platforms, helping to create trainings on various Microsoft 365 features, and additional administrative work. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in how technology use in the nonprofit sector is rapidly changing.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and time management skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn, take initiative and problem solve. Candidates should be able to work independently and in a team setting and must show a demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. During the internship, the Operations and HR intern will learn more about program operations, budget management, human resources and talent acquisition. At the end of the term, the intern will come away with an increased understanding of nonprofit operations management.
