Smile Train is an international nonprofit headquartered in New York. Our mission is to transform the life of every person impacted by cleft lip and palate. We train and support doctors and medical professionals to provide free life-changing comprehensive cleft treatment to our beneficiaries. Our sustainable model has allowed us to reach 1.5 million children in 90+ countries to date and we’re just getting started. We are truly changing the world one smile at a time.

We are seeking a Human Resources Intern for Fall 2021. This person will support human resources initiatives related to recruitment, recognition, and general HR administration. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in human resources and back-office management, to truly understand how all of the pieces move to ensure an organization is able to deliver on its vision.

The intern will report to the Director, Human Resources. Ideal candidates are based in the NYC area, though this will likely be full/mostly remote internship given the pandemic. This is a paid internship and it is projected to start on or around September 20, 2021 and conclude on December 10, 2021. The internship is scoped at anywhere from 20 to 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruitment: support on screening, advertising, coordination, etc. to ensure that Smile Train attracts top tier talent, while minimizing the lift for hiring managers.
  • Recognition: liaise with the HR Director to create processes to ensure all colleagues feel appreciated and seen for their very good work.
  • Learning and Development: track internal learning activities; research and share learning opportunities that may be of interest to the ST Team.
  • Administration: support on new FY activities, such as saving job descriptions, checking status of goals, etc.
  • Other: Support on various HR activities as needed, largely desk research

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is/has:

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field (Human Resources, Administration, Organizational Psychology/Behavior)
  • Superb desk research skills, genuine curiosity in HR and people management
  • Interest non-profit management, experience in the non-profit space is a huge plus
  • Well-organized, can multi-task with ease, adapt to fast-paced workspace, has a customer services orientation
  • Can-do attitude, strong attention to detail, discretion, and a sense of humor
  • Ace communication skills, both verbal and written
