Prospectus / Chik-Wauk 2022 Intern

The Gunflint Trail Historical Society is seeking an individual to join the Chik-Wauk team as an Intern for the 2022 summer season.

If you love the outdoors, Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is located on the edge of the eastern side of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness at the end of the famous Gunflint Trail, on Saganaga Lake.

The Intern will primarily be involved on the Chik-Wauk campus with improving information transmission for the Watercraft Exhibit Building to be more visible and accessible to the visitor.

The position will involve several components:

• Staffing the building several days a week to directly discuss the various nautical/historic treasures with the visitors during the season.
• Do underlying research on each of the exhibited items.
• Develop and implement a Q-Code scanning system (e.g. for iPhone, etc.) so each exhibit will have comprehensive information easily available. This could also be in several languages. 
• Learn and participate in other aspects of the Museum and Nature Center as needed.
• Use of a point of sale system for admission and gift shop items.

The ideal candidate:

• Will have an abiding interest in historical objects within the Watercraft Exhibit Building and throughout the campus.
• He/She will need to be a self-starter with strong technical acumen in order to create the aforementioned program. Training will be available.

Included for the Intern will be:

• Free housing in a nearby (10 miles) furnished home. This lovely home has 3 private bedrooms, kitchen, WiFi, etc.
• A stipend of $1,500 is included.
