OVERVIEW: Peace Action New York State seeks a politically aware, keen and independent part-time intern to coordinate our Peace Voter Campaign across the state, working from our NYC office. The Peace Voter 2020 Campaign is a set of strategies and tactics that injects foreign policy concerns into the Congressional elections.  The goal is to support an informed electorate and elect pro-Peace candidates. Some of the tactics that will be employed are: candidate briefings (in person or by phone, providing expertise on our issues), voter registration, debates and forums, collect responses to candidate questionnaires, create voter guides and publish voting records, and Voter ID and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) (Robo Calls, Transportation, Phone Canvass).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Work with Peace Action New York State activists around the state to coordinate a state-wide Peace Voter Campaign that will organize candidate briefings, insert foreign policy issues into candidate forums and debates, and connect with local voter registration and GOTV drives.
  • Update database with the contact information for all 2020 Congressional candidates in New York State.
  • Help maintain responses to candidate questionnaires sent out by Peace Action New York State.
  •  Assist in compiling the voting records and questionnaire responses into voter guides by Congressional district that can be distributed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A current undergraduate student at a university in NYC
  • A passion for social justice and foreign policy and an understanding of Peace Action New York State’s mission and values
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in electoral work is preferred
