Description

Special Education teachers are in demand in Seattle schools! The Seattle Teacher Residency program trains teachers to teach in Seattle Public schools while pursuing their Masters in Teaching degree from the University of Washington College of Education. STR residents spend a year working alongside an experienced mentor teacher in a Seattle school and take coursework in Special Education and Elementary Education. They graduate with a dual certification (in Elementary and SPED) after 5 quarters as a resident and commit to teaching in SPS schools for 5 years after the residency year. Residents receive a year long stipend of $16,000, tuition reimbursement opportunities, and the chance to make an impact in local schools.

Residents will be employed as full time Special Education teachers in a Seattle school in the second year of the program (after successful completion of the residency year). First year SPS teachers with masters degrees earn approximately $67,000 annually.
