Reports to: Program Assistant and Senior Program Officer, Advocacy and Policy

Based in: New York, NY

Duration: 6 months (January/February to June/July 2020)

 

Purpose:

The Advocacy and Policy team intern will provide administrative and general program support to the Advocacy and Policy programs team, helping to drive the small but mighty team during a busy and momentous time for women’s rights.

In order to achieve gender justice, IWHC advances the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and adolescent girls by:    

·        Funding and supporting feminist leaders, organizations, and movements, primarily in the Global South;  

·        Advocating for international and US policies, programs, and funding, and holding governments to their commitments; and   

·        Generating knowledge and leading dialogues on critical and emergent issues. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Assist with the administration of individual support grants, including entering grants into management database and supporting with grantmaking documentation

·        Provide logistical and administrative support for the Advocacy in Practice training program during the Commission on the Status of Women.

·        Attend events at/around the United Nations and/or webinars on behalf of IWHC and share out information and notes, in particular related to Beijing+25 and the 64th Commission on the Status of Women and the High Level Political Forum.

·        Draft materials for the IWHC website as needed, such as factsheets.

·        Assist with meeting logistics and note-taking for team meetings.

·        Assist with administrative and clerical work such as expense reports, filing and scanning, etc.

·        Ad hoc research and writing for the advocacy team.

·        Other duties as assigned


You’re a fit for this internship if you are:

·        Currently enrolled in or completed a Bachelor’s degree

·        Interested in international policy, reproductive rights/justice, and/or social justice

·        Passionate about multilateralism and learning how experts at national level connect to the global level

·        Fluent in written and spoken English, and working Spanish fluency preferred; other languages, especially French or Portuguese a plus

·        Attentive to detail, with strong organizational skills and good time management

·        Skilled with computers and administrative tasks, including proficiency with Microsoft Office

·        A self-starter with a collaborative spirit, and an openness to learning and new experiences
