Non- profit company focused on helping to develop cooperatives that focus on fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for building BIPOC cooperative ecosystems Seeking a motivated business major who is ready to apply knowledge of business practices and processes in a fast-paced, real-world business environment. The intern is supervised in supporting services to worker-owner cooperatives based on principles of social justice, equality, and democracy. This will be a valuable experience for any student pursuing a career in business administration, entrepreneurship, and business management.
SUCCESSFUL COOPERATIVE BUSINESS INTERN WILL HAVE
A strong interest/background in worker-cooperative business development, entrepreneurship, business development and, Experience including meeting facilitation and coordination. Groups will range from 10 to 20 people. Ability to learn quickly and be interested in developing a variety of new skills; be able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; can work both autonomously and in a team. Willingness to engage with the cooperative members, and other individuals and organizations supporting the development of the cooperative businesses. Experience interacting with the press as well as supporting cooperative members with public speaking engagements and networking. Superior organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated experience of written and oral presentation skills. Entrepreneurial/Business skills are preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Assist coordination cooperative academy based on the training curriculum.
Coordinate weekly coop meetings in the evenings and weekends.
Supporting the various coop teams with leadership development of members.
Coordinate with attorney legal business incorporation and governance of coops.
Assist with ongoing technical and leadership trainings.
Assist with developing plan with coops for marketing strategy.
Maintaining cooperative contact database/member information.
Assist with guiding coop members with developing sales promotions, enewsletters, and updates to their website.
Assist with coordinate cooperative symposiums and public events.
Spring/Fall (max 10 hrs per wk) Summer Semester (max 20 hrs per wk)
Languages: Able to write, read and speak fluently in
English and Spanish is helpful
Community Development, Business, or related field.
Business development experience is preferred.
Experience with community organizing.
Experience with working in Latin@ immigrant communities.
Work in other immigrant communities is a plus.
Helpful written communicator in English and Spanish.
Experience with media, and communications messaging a plus.
