DESCRIPTION 

This Marketing and Development Volunteer position offers the opportunity to work in a small non-profit, whose mission is to support and promote the work of art curators in the non-profit sector. Day-to-day responsibilities will vary, and flexibility is key. The position can grow overtime to meet the strengths of the applicant. The volunteer is expected to commit to a minimum of two full days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays preferred, with one full day devoted to social media management, and the other devoted to AAMC membership and donor database management. The volunteer must be able to attend our Annual Conference from Saturday, May 4 – Tuesday, May 7, 2019 to be considered for this position. Overall the volunteer will report directly to the Administrator and Program Manager with oversight from the Executive Director, as well as from our Conference Coordinator. 


STIPEND 

AAMC offers a stipend of $50/week and will work with the volunteer with regards to facilitating requirements for credit towards degree programs. For assistance during our Conference, there will be additional support provided. We are open to discussing this more in detail. 


EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS

In addition to facilitating requirements for credit towards degree programs, through this position the volunteer will:

1. Acquire introductory level event, marketing, and fundraising knowledge specific to an arts-based nonprofit organization.

2. Gain the skills required to research and draft, with appropriate language, social media content for an outfacing arts organization, along with the knowledge of how to compose a working social media strategy and utilize social media marketing tools and platforms.

3. Learn how to navigate an intricate Content Management System (CMS).

4. Become familiar with the many different types of nonprofit art museums and organizations both in the US and abroad.


KEY TASKS 

SOCIAL MEDIA 

AAMC & AAMC Foundation seeks help in coordinating its social media presence through content research and management. In maintaining the organizations’ profile and voice, under direct supervision and guidance from the Administrator and Program Manager, the volunteer will draft content for our programs, partner highlights, and member and community news, all subject to approval before posting. The volunteer will take an active role helping to maintain four major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram) with regularly scheduled content, and will refer to the AAMC & AAMC Foundation Social Media Strategy with regards to the type of content we aim to showcase, keeping in mind that the main tasks will include researching art news resources for prospect and member updates, institutional & individual member highlights, and significant news regarding the curatorial field. 


SPECIAL PROJECT 

The volunteer will work towards developing a suggested outline on how to meet the goals of our social media strategy focused upon the Annual Conference, working in tandem with established policies and successful past work, along with already created efforts. Ideas around using video, live feeds, and scheduled content will be involved. 


DEVELOPMENT & OFFICE ADMINISTRATION 

The volunteer will be required to help with administration and related direct marketing outreach tasks as needed. Specific duties will include compiling, organizing, and amending AAMC membership and donor database records, spreadsheets, and listings, assisting with direct mail outreach, printing materials needed for AAMC & AAMC Foundation events, and general office duties, etc. Through these tasks, the volunteer will gain experience in a professional office setting, acquire introduction level event and fundraising knowledge, and become familiar with many museums in the US and abroad.

COMPETENCIES & QUALITIES 

− MAC platforms for office programs, database & file management, along with ability to learn new software 

− Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram 

− Digital marketing, including basic photo editing & e-communications 

− Office skills in email, phone, and scanning 

− Problem Solving 

− Ability to communicate clearly & concisely, in a timely & consistent manner 

− Discretion with sensitive material
