Solidarity Research Center is seeking a research fellow to work on our Municipalism Learning Series project during the summer 2023. This is a remote position. The research will inform a directory of resources available on our website and future public education panels.

The research fellow will contribute to the Municipalism Learning Series project by reviewing the literature on municipalism, conducting desk research on resources (articles, reports, books, podcasts, or films), and listening with key actors in the municipalist movement. The hourly rate for the fellowship starts at $25 and the time commitment is maximum five hours a week from June to August 2023. We can also work with your school, if you are a student, so you can receive credit or transcript recognition.

Qualifications for the research fellow include:

  • Proficiency in Google Docs and interest in learning other platforms such as Calendly, Otter.ai, and Notion
  • At least one year of research experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small research team
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written formats
  • Keen eye for detail and organization
  • Passion for social, racial, gender and sexuality, ecological, and economic justice
  • Prior or present involvement in community organizing and/or social movement building
  • Interest in municipalism
  • Knowledge and experience with Wordpress is a plus

The goal of the Municipalism Learning Series is to introduce the democratic municipalist framework to a broad audience in North America. We launched on May Day 2022 with a panel on municipalism and race. Our second panel on May Day 2023 focused on municipalism and labor. We are developing a fellowship program to launch in fall 2023.

Solidarity Research Center is a worker self-directed nonprofit that builds solidarity economy ecosystems using data science, story-based strategy, and action research. We work at the intersection of racial justice and solidarity economies. We are the fiscal sponsor of the Municipalism Learning Series.
