ABOUT AWAMAKI

Awamaki is an innovative non-profit social enterprise that works to economically empower Quechua women and preserve traditional crafts through skills-based education and connection to market access. Its mission is to collaborate with associations of Peruvian women, investing in their skills to connect them to markets, and strengthening their leadership to promote entrepreneurship of sustainable businesses so that they can bring prosperity to their families and communities. Awamaki achieves this mission through two primary programs: Sustainable Tourism and the Women’s Cooperatives Program. Awamaki is located in Ollantaytambo, a small town in the Sacred Valley, Peru.

DESCRIPTION

The primary responsibility of the monitoring and evaluation fellow will be to lead the summer M&E team in activities that help us measure the three following outcomes: (1) Women in the program experience an increase in income; (2) Women in the program experience an increase in self confidence and decision-making power in the household and community; and (3) Cooperatives graduate from development model and manage businesses independently. These activities include facilitating our annual income analysis, revising and implementing our impact survey, and overseeing overall data analysis. Deliverables from the summer M&E team include an income analysis for 2019 and an impact report for 2020, as well as developing tools and an implementation plan for future program evaluations.

As the Monitoring and Evaluation Fellow, you can expect to:

  • Design surveys and interview protocols
  • Lead M&E team in collecting impact data from Awamaki's partner communities
  • Oversee data entry and analysis
  • Supervise annual YOY income analysis
  • Plan and execute capacity-building workshops within the women's cooperatives
  • Evaluate workshops and what the participants learned
  • Produce reports for grants and funders about Awamaki’s impact
  • Provide program support with administrative tasks and logistical support
  • Work a minimum of 6 – 9 hours per week at Awamaki's fair trade store in Ollantaytambo

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience and ability working with data and Excel
  • Comfort with technology and willingness to explore and become adept at unfamiliar technology platforms.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well independently and remotely
  • Ability to maintain regular schedule, but with room for flexibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to think strategically, create a project plan and take initiative to complete assignments
  • Advanced Spanish proficiency, written and oral 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree or student in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field
  • Skilled with any of the following programs: Excel, SPSS, NVivo, or other data analysis software
  • Experience developing and administering surveys and interviews
  • Knowledge or experience in program planning and evaluation
  • Previous experience managing interns or volunteers
  • Living experience in Peru, the Andes, Latin America or the developing world

COMPENSATION

Awamaki will provide staff support to the M&E fellow to assist in fulfilling the above activities. Room and board in our volunteer house will also be provided to the fellow during his or her time in Ollantaytambo. We will wave all program fees and provide a weaving immersion experience in one of our partner communities, as well as airport pickup upon arrival.

Benefits

This is a compensated position, meaning Awamaki will provide housing for the duration of the fellow's stay, including lunch and dinner 4 days/week. We will also provide airport pick-up and a weaving immersion in one of our partner communities.
