Educational Programming Intern (Fall 2022)

We are searching for passionate Educational Programming interns for the 2022-2023 school year! If you love working with youth, enjoy seeing their writing flourish through your individualized support, and are eager to learn more about the nonprofit world, we may be a good fit for you.

We’re currently seeking interns for the 22-23 school year, which runs from August through late May 2023. We have the option to intern for only the fall semester (late August/early September - December 2022), with the hopes that interns will consider the full 9-month school year commitment as part of a more intensive learning experience.

About our Educational Programming Internship:

Our Educational Programming interns support our student programs in a variety of ways, including tutoring students 1:1 and in small groups, helping prepare our students’ work for publication through editing and copyediting, and assisting our staff in the ins and outs of program management and volunteer support.

Requirements:

• Minimum commitment of 10-15 hours per week
• Ability to regularly commute to San Francisco (Mission, Mission Bay, and/or Tenderloin neighborhoods)
• Required schedule of weekdays between 8am - 2pm to serve in-school programs and field trips and/or 2pm - 8pm to work with after-school programs
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (editing/proofreading experience is a plus)
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as our mission of supporting youth ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills
• Teaching/tutoring experience with youth in a professional setting (preferred)
• Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom (preferred)
• Any fluency level in spoken and/or written Spanish, Chinese, Arabic (preferred)
• Proficiency with Google Suite and Zoom (preferred)
• Fingerprint background check, tuberculosis screening, and record of COVID-19 vaccination + booster (required upon position acceptance)

Compensation:

We have limited stipends available and prioritize those with financial need, current 826 Valencia interns, 826 Valencia student alumni, and interns who can commit to the 9-month internship. Stipends will be paid in four ~$500-800 installments over the course of the semester, depending on time commitment and internship length. If you are receiving college course credit, you will not be eligible for a stipend as stated in compensation laws.
