Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action seeks a part-time (working 5-29 hours per week), unpaid Research Intern with a strong interest in Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action issues, a commitment to social change, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.

The Research Intern assists the research team with providing information, analysis and written materials to support Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action campaigns on all of our food, water and climate issues. Currently, much of our research supports local, state and federal climate and energy campaigns, including those that seek to ban fracking, shut down power plants, pipelines and other fossil fuel infrastructure, and move off of fossil fuels and onto 100% renewable energy. This position is in the Washington, DC office. The summer internship will last from May to August. Start and end dates are flexible.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assisting researchers with data collection, synthesis and analysis
  2. Providing research support to advance campaigns, primarily on climate/energy issues, as well as food and water issues as needed 
  3. Researching both corporations and government (federal, state, local) to help our team craft reports, briefing papers, and articles for the general public, media, elected officials and government agencies 
  4. Writing short articles or other materials
  5. Attending briefings, hearings, speeches and other events
  6. Maintaining strong records of work and assisting with reviewing publications 
  7. Participating in meetings and presentations with the research team 


Qualifications:

Education: Working towards a college degree.

Computer Skills: An individual should be able to work in a computerized environment and have adequate knowledge of word processing, email, internet and spreadsheet software; in particular have coursework or certification in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point and proficiency with all other Microsoft Office products.

Knowledge: Experience in academic and corporate research is a plus, as is a background in any of the following: public policy, economics, political science, journalism, environmental science, public health, geospatial analysis. 

Experience: No experience required.
