Founded in July 2016, the Asylum Seeker Assistance Project (ASAP) is the first and only nonprofit exclusively dedicated to serving the estimated 50,000 asylum seekers and their families living in the D.C. Metro region. An asylum seeker is a person who applies for refugee status from the safety of the United States. Through direct services, education, and community support, ASAP empowers asylum seekers to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.

ASAP is seeking an intern to provide support to ASAP’s core programs. This intern will work closely with ASAP Program Managers to expand the reach and scope of ASAP’s services. Past projects have included the development of client resource materials, event coordination, video production, etc. All ASAP internships include one-on-one interaction with clients. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in immigration law, public policy, social work, or human services. This position is based out of ASAP's office in Washington, D.C. located walking distance from the Dupont Circle metro (red line).


Specific Responsibilities 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

·      Assist Program Managers with resource mapping;

·      Conduct research on community partners;

·      Maintain ASAP's social media presence via Facebook and Twitter;

·      Oversee the creation of #HumansofASAP Facebook posts;

·      Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external use;

·      Provide support to job readiness trainings;

·      Assist with all other projects as needed.


Qualifications 

·      A demonstrated commitment to ASAP’s mission and values.

·      Highly motivated, dependable, positive, and able to work independently. 

·      Excellent interpersonal skills.

·      Strong writing and research skills.

 ·     Flexible, proactive, and good sense of humor.


Hours, Start Date and Duration

Internship responsibilities will be mostly project-based meaning hours are flexible. A minimum commitment of 16 hours or more per week is required. The internship will start on a mutually agreed upon date at the start and continue through the spring semester.
