The Thinkubator, an innovation and workforce development nonprofit organization is seeking a community engagement intern (s) for its newly launched and opened Poughkeepsie center. The Thinkubator’s Poughkeepsie Center located in the heart of the city’s downtown is home to The Thinkubator Nutrition and The Hudson River Valley internship program and serves as a community space for artists, students, and community based organizations looking to host events and programs.

  • The Thinkubator Nutrition is a partnership with entrepreneur Desiree Lee-Herrington, owner of two fitness and wellness clubs in Texas and a local advocate of the hudson valley, to provide health, nutrition, and wellness products to the local community. The Center also serves as a fitness club for workouts, group sessions, fitness consultations, and product purchasing. 
  • The Hudson River Valley internship program is a pilot project of The Thinkubator. It leverages its design thinking and project management internship program developed in the Bronx, New York to support the direct training for local Hudson valley youth. The program will support 30 Hudson River Valley youth in project based internships over the 2021 - 22 academic year. 

Interns will learn and participate in the following activities: 

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns to promote The Thinkubator’s presence in the Hudson River Valley; 
  • Develop and implement social media campaigns to yield customers for The Thinkubator Nutrition and to support the use of the fitness and wellness center among local residents, students, faculty, and staff; 
  • Build an events calendar consisting of public programming for the local community, students, faculty, and staff to support the social interaction among individuals who normally would not engage with each other; 
  • Support the operations of events and programs at The Thinkubator Poughkeepsie Center; 
  • Engage community-based organizations and arts organizations in developing partnerships and programming to support youth and the community; 
  • Support The Thinkubator’s Hudson Valley Internship program through building partnerships with local businesses to host high school interns; 
  • Perform other duties as discussed with the Director of the Poughkeepsie Center. 


  • Applicants should be college students seeking credit-bearing internship experience majoring in business, communications, political science, social work, psychology, entrepreneurship, urban studies. 
  • Juniors and Seniors encouraged to apply 


Applicants should send a resume and cover letter to with the subject line “Marketing, Events, and Community Engagement Internship.” The internship can start immediately and will run through December 2021 or May 2021. You will be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week and apply for your institution’s credit bearing internship course to receive academic credit for this experience. Our required hours will depend on the amount of internship hours required to complete your internship. Funding is very limited as we are a startup nonprofit organization. 

Please note: This position is based in Poughkeepsie, NY. In response to COVID-19, The Thinkubator staff are temporarily teleworking; however, the Poughkeepsie Center is open and interns can work from the space.
