The Blue Mountain Center (BMC) seeks enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals for internships during tour 2020 season (late April through mid-November). Interns must commit to a stay of at least two months.

BMC, located within a private family estate in Blue Mountain Lake, New York, hosts accomplished activists, writers, visual artists, filmmakers and composers for four-week residencies. We provide an opportunity for professional artists and writers to focus on their work, free from the distractions and obligations of day-to-day life. In addition we also host a series of conferences during the spring and fall months each year, serving as a resource for culturally-based progressive movement building. These gatherings bring together individuals to talk about pressing social problems such as civil liberties, environmental health and safety, peace, and economic justice.

Interning at BMC is a great way for any person interested in the arts, film, literature and politics to live in a community of cultural workers while learning about the day-to-day operations of a residential non-profit organization. BMC interns are important members of the community and are responsible for helping to manage the smooth flow of our programming along with three other residential staff. The work is varied and typically combines administrative, hosting, and light maintenance/grounds-keeping tasks. Special interests (i.e organic gardening, archival projects, social media, writing, artist support) can also be prioritized in a given intern’s workload as time allows.

Interns and staff eat meals with Residents and have many opportunities to join groups for activities and outdoor excursions. Working in a residential setting means that the work day does not always "end" as staff share many evening duties. In general, interns are expected to adopt BMC's "all hands on deck" work culture, with the understanding that set breaks for rest, fun, swimming etc. are also important and encouraged.

Prior experience is not necessary, but a background in the arts and/or activism, experience working in hospitality/ food service/gardening, a love of the outdoors, and administrative and basic computer skills are all assets. Qualified applicants will display enthusiasm, a positive attitude and ability to thrive in a communal living environment.
