General Overview:

The Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) is a non-profit public interest organization promoting multi-modal transportation systems that work for all. Through pilot projects, research, capacity-building, and advocacy, SUMC helps communities realize a vision of an equitable and sustainable mobility future.

SUMC is growing its LA office to serve a growing set of programs that support practitioners and stakeholders in pursuing transportation equity and innovation.  In particular, the California Clean Mobility Options Voucher Pilot program (CMO) disseminates knowledge and resources throughout a rapidly growing mobility ecosystem of public agencies, community-based organizations, Native American tribes, and private sector mobility providers.

SUMC is looking for a Data Fellow to support reporting, research and evaluation within the Clean Mobility Options Pilot Program.

Position Overview:

This fellowship is a temporary position to support the pursuit of long-term development and planning efforts for Clean Mobility Options and SUMC communications and evaluation efforts. The Data Fellow will work closely with SUMC’s Research Analyst and CMO Program Manager and the broader California-based team to support the organization’s growing capacity-building, technical assistance, and evaluation programs.

The Data Fellow's responsibilities may include data collection management, data analysis and visualization, technical assistance delivery, and developing and implementing indicators and methodological processes for new projects.

Data Fellow Duties May Include:

  • Evaluation data collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization
  • Conducting literature reviews to support evaluation metrics
  • Aiding in technical assistance delivery to program participants regarding evaluation practices and data analysis
  • Creating engaging written and visual reports based on evaluation findings
  • Contributing to the development and utilization of tools such as surveys, mapping tools, and reporting templates
  • Conducting research and collecting information about mobility projects from around the country for inclusion in SUMC’s Learning Center

Ideal Candidate Background:

Recent or current graduate students in Public Affairs, Public Policy, Public Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Communications, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies or Science, or related programs. Undergraduate juniors or seniors, current college students working toward an associate degree, and recent college graduates with backgrounds in the above may also apply.

The fellow should be a flexible team player adept at research, data management and visualization, writing and knowledgeable about transportation. Familiarity with statistical software, such as R or Stata, mapping software, such as ArcGIS, and the Microsoft Office Suite are all pros.

Diversity Policy:

The Shared-Use Mobility Center is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to inclusion in transportation, and we strive to reflect that mission in the composition of our staff.  Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and women candidates are especially encouraged to submit applications.  The Shared-Use Mobility Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer that does not discriminate against any employee or job applicant. Employment opportunities at SUMC are based upon one’s qualifications and capabilities to perform the essential functions of a particular job. All employment candidates are considered without regard to: race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, national origin, disability, age, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, genetics, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.  This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including, but not limited to hiring, termination, promotion, transfer, layoff, leave of absence, compensation, and training.

How to Apply:

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis; we encourage candidates to apply at their earliest convenience.

Please send a cover letter, resume/CV, and work or writing sample highlighting your relevant skills through SUMC’s hiring portal at https://sharedusemobilityctr.bamboohr.com/careers.
