Earth Day Initiative is a non-profit organization that promotes environmental awareness through annual Earth Day events, as well as year-round programs which put gardens in school classrooms, coordinate student-oriented sustainability and green jobs conferences, and support environmental campaigns by our partner organizations. In 2020 we marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and are currently preparing for Earth Day 2021 which will be our second year of virtual events bringing people together from around the world to take part in sustainability initiatives and climate activism.

We seek a Campaign and Community Outreach Intern to assist us the organizing of our Earth Day 2021 virtual events, as well as in our year-round sustainability programs, including our sustainable food education program and corporate employee engagement programs. The intern would be responsible for outreach to and communication with schools, local businesses, national companies, and environmental organizations in our efforts to get these various groups involved in our events and programs. We work with organizations like Natural Resources Defense Council, the NYC Department of Education, Whole Foods, Arc'teryx, Rainforest Alliance, Environmental Defense Fund, March for Science, New York Botanical Garden, GrowNYC, the United Nations, and the New York Times.

We're preparing now for our Earth Day 2021 events which will include a virtual fair featuring a wide range of environmental organizations in a virtual reality space and a virtual stage with a full line-up of speakers and interactive sessions. This past year our virtual events included Al Gore, Bill Nye, Ian Somerhalder, Elizabeth Warren, climate scientists, activists, and sustainability experts.

This internship provides a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the spheres of environmental education and corporate social responsibility and gain contacts at dozens of organizations working in these fields. The position would be ideal for someone interested in pursuing a career in corporate social responsibility, environmental advocacy, or sustainability.

This is a remote position so there is no need to be in New York City for this position.
