GENERAL DESCRIPTION

USGBC is a Washington DC based nonprofit organization focused on proving better buildings equals better lives. USGBC established the LEED system to support this vision. LEED is the most widely used green building program in the world and is helping transform buildings, communities and cities around the world. Today, people know that if they are in a LEED-certified building they are using less energy and water, avoiding waste, saving on maintenance costs, improving indoor air quality, offering comfort to their occupants, and creating less environmental burden on their community. They also know that they are in a building that enhances their health and wellness. USGBC focuses on our relevant and reimagined vision that Healthy people in healthy places equal a healthy economy.


As the Equity Initiative Intern, you will help with the creation of an initiative to further equity in buildings and cities. Your tasks include, but are not limited to analysis, of other equity programs and approaches, structuring and interpretation of data, researching of best practices, locating case studies and stories, etc.


This internship is an opportunity to learn how to bring equity into sustainability, how to initiate a new program, and what is needed to make it a reality. This is a remote internship, working closely with and reporting to two Senior Fellows.


INTERNSHIP DETAILS INCLUDE

As part of the USGBC Equity Initiative, you will help the Senior Fellows understand what has been done previously, how to reach members and experts for input on this program, and how to implement and actualize new strategies for making change.

Requirements

EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES

  • Undergraduate or graduate (or current student) In a field related to architecture/planning, etc. or public health or social equity
  • Working understanding of LEED and other green rating systems


EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

  • Very good computer and graphic skills
  • Statistics and mapping experience preferred


OTHER DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Represent an underrepresented demographic
  • Creative, passionate, hard working
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work with other professionals, advocates, community
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Commitment to USGBC mission
