Overview


The Black Girls Matter Miami Coalition is seeking a part-time intern for the inaugural cohort of the coalition’s Freedom Summer Institute. This 4-week intensive leadership development program will engage local youth as organizers to effect policy change. The coalition provides high quality, arts-based relationship-building, leadership development and political education opportunities for high school-aged girls living in Miami-Dade County. This position will work closely with the community organizer as well as the BGM Coalition and its member organizations.



Responsibilities:

●      In collaboration with the BGM organizer, develop arts-based, social justice focused workshops. Areas of concentration may include spoken word/poetry, photography, videography/video editing and production, photo-editing, painting, public education ads, and the like;

●      Workshop facilitation require strong storytelling skills and social justice framework;

●      Outreach tasks including door-knocking, phone/text banking, drafting email blasts, social media posting and other tasks as it relates to summer institute.

●      Play a key role in the logistical planning of the summer institute which may include coordinating transportation, food ordering, and/or managing on-site location issues;

●      Maintain communication and positive relationships with community organizer/program coordinator, all coalition members, youth organizers, SSLC staff, parents and coalition partners;

●      Respectful and compassionate interactions with all youth program participants in alignment with the SSLC Principles and Personality;

Compensation:

Please note that this is an unpaid internship, however interns will receive community service hours and/or service learning hours as well as individualized professional development on a weekly basis throughout the course of the internship. College applicants can also use this internship to fulfill course or graduation requirements.
