SWASH Village is looking for a "Project Manager- Products and Packaging Research, Design & Developmen” in six villages of different topographic environments(high mountains, hills, agricultural plains, desert/arid region) in India. As part of the organization’s SWASH Village program a waste management system is planned that includes waste collection from all stakeholders (incl. households, and depending on location, also from hotels, restaurants, grocery shops, non-grocery shops & food stands) a waste collection and storage facility as well as a waste processing facility. The ultimate goal for the locality is to be a ‘Zero Waste’ village in which all waste is recycled and reused with no waste going to the landfills.
The goal of zero waste can only be attained by also reducing waste at the production / product / supply / storage and consumption level. Thus, the project manager will undertake one or more of the following tasks/responsibilities:
i)- Identify and promote the sale and purchase of products in the village that are made using eco-friendly, sustainable processes and that have no or very little toxic packaging.
ii)- Trigger alternative means of production to mass-produced industry packaged and supplied products (carrying high waste) that can be made using local, safe and recyclable materials. This may include liaising with local entrepreneurs.
iii)Promote the avoidance of toxic and non-recyclable materials in the village, so that maximum resources can be recovered with least harm to the environment. This may be done by conducting workshops, seminars or other education-enhancing methods and utilizing behaviour-change communication.

-Degree in Environmental Science, a Sustainability domain or Product Design preferred
-Passion for sustainability and conservation of the environment
-Ideally experience in design and/or production of organic products
NOTE ON LOCATION: Even though "Harike, Punjab" has been indicated as the "internship location"(only one location can be given per internship role-please see below) this position is available in most, if not all other EduCARE India centers with an ongoing "SWASH Village" program, i.e., depending on availability, also in Rait, Himachal Pradesh; Naddi, Himachal Pradesh; Karu-Changa, Ladakh/Jammu & Kashmir; Gajner, Rajasthan and Rangmahal, Rajasthan.
