Description

Earth Day Initiative is a non-profit organization that promotes environmental action and awareness through annual Earth Day events, as well as year-round programs such as a sustainable food education program and a green buildings publication. We aim to bring the spirit of the first Earth Day into the 21st Century.

Our annual events and year-round programs include partnerships with local businesses, national companies, and environmental organizations. We work with companies and organizations like Natural Resources Defense Council, Whole Foods, Enterprise CarShare, Toshiba, Anthropologie, Rainforest Alliance, Environmental Defense Fund, Levi's, H&M, Con Ed, Food & Water Watch, New York Botanical Garden, GrowNYC, the United Nations, Toyota, the City of New York, and the New York Times. Past interns have gone on to work on the City of New York's recycling initiatives, landmark urban farming projects, and corporate responsibility at multinational corporations.

About the Renewable Energy Campaign Internship: The Renewable Energy Campaign Intern will be responsible for helping to lay the groundwork for a new campaign that will count down to the 50th anniversary of Earth Day (in 2020) by getting people to switch over to renewable energy in whatever way they can. Whether it is installing solar panels on their home or office or simply electing to purchase renewable energy through their local utility, we will set an ambitious goal for switching people over to renewable energy by 2020. The campaign is a form of micro-divestment as we allow people to stop paying for dirty energy and start supporting clean energy in their communities.

The intern will help by making contact with companies, non-profits, and schools to sign on as campaign partners, assist the initial roll out of the campaign to media outlets and social media platforms, and manage outreach to campaign supporters through tabling events. Ideally, much of the intern's time will be spent outside of the office speaking with prospective organizational partners and individual supporters. We are in the early stages of the campaign, so the Renewable Energy Campaign Intern will be able to take on a large amount of responsibility for the project.

This internship provides a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the sustainability, environmental activism, and corporate social responsibility communities in New York City and beyond and gain contacts at dozens of organizations working in these fields. The position would be ideal for someone interested in pursuing a career in environmental advocacy or corporate social responsibility.
