Partners of the Americas seeks a passionate and knowledgeable intern for the Education & Global Citizenship Unit, primarily to work on assignments related to the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and NAFSA: Association of International Educators, Partners of the Americas administers this capacity-building and grant making program to support colleges, universities, and other post-secondary institutions throughout the Western Hemisphere to develop partnerships that make international study and training more broadly available to all students.  

 

The Intern, Education & Global Citizenship Unit will support the Innovation Fund in the day-to-day activities required to promote current and upcoming grant opportunities and events to networks of higher education institutions, implement orientation and follow-up phases with award recipients, and report on project outcomes.  

 

Requirements 

  • Interest and/or knowledge or in higher education, exchanges, or international relations in Latin America and the Caribbean region. 
  • Administrative skills, including logistics, to implement program activities and plan events. 
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to handle multiple tasks and work with team members in a dynamic environment in various settings. 
  • Strong written and oral skills in English, knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese preferred 
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and possess strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for compiling data and information 
  • Experience and/or interest in grants management 
  • Strong cross-cultural/interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Experience in working with higher education institutions, preferred but not necessary 
  • Ability to commit at least 25 hours per week 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Assist the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund team in the on-going planning and coordination of grant competitions, technical assistance workshops, and special events 
  • Outreach and promotion to higher education institutions (HEIs), educational organizations, and associations throughout the Western Hemisphere. 
  • Assist in coordinating and hosting informational webinars to HEIs in English and Spanish. 
  • Support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of programs by tracking outcomes and achievements 
  • Track incoming inquiries about grant competitions. 
  • Support with scheduling and coordinating grant application review processes, tracking and evaluating incoming applications, preparing proposal assignments, reading proposals, and taking notes during selection meetings.  
  • Support program staff in donor reporting process by drafting project summaries and compiling annexes. 
  • Draft correspondences and update program materials in English and/or Spanish for diverse audiences, such as donors, HEIs, and the general public. 
  • Develop self-directed learning goals to measure own progress and achievement
