Job Description – Connectional Ministries Intern


The Connectional Table is looking for a talented and driven Connectional Ministries Intern to join our team for the 2020-2021 school year. We value your learning and development as our highest priority, and we are committed to making sure an intern gets the most out of the experience. Our staff team will work with you to select projects that allow you to grow your skills and test out what you are learning in your classes in the real world.

As we are focused on the intern’s learning and educational experience, we are flexible about the roles you will perform and projects you are assigned. You could assist us with:

·     our communication (digital or written),

·     board governance and engagement of our board of directors,

·     performing research surveys and survey analysis, 

·     planning a webinar or improving our online meetings,

·     working on strategy for sharing about our legislative priorities for our General Conference (global legislative assembly of the UMC),

·     Working on financial items - specifically related to the UMC’s total budget,

·     Writing content for our blog or emerging,

·     Project managing our Emerging website,

·     State of the Church report,

·     Our contribution to the End Racism campaign of The UMC,

·     Writing devotionals or spiritual resources,

·     Website and social media presence, or

·     Work with us to come up a new idea.

This is a paid internship.

Position is fully remote due to Covid-19.


ABOUT US

The Connectional Table discerns and articulates the vision for the worldwide United Methodist Church (over 12 million members across 100+ countries) and stewards the mission, ministries, and resources of the denomination as determined by the General Conference and in consultation with the United Methodist Council of Bishops. The Connectional Table seeks to help the UMC live out its vision as a worldwide church and realize its mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The Connectional Table does this by focusing our work on the themes: Worldwide and Contextual, Vital and Effective, Affirming and Inclusive, and Connectional.


The Connectional Table is one of the 13 agencies or office of the United Methodist Church. Our staff regularly work with the other offices on programs, initiatives, and various tasks. The organization is directed by an engaged working board of directors made up of 64 people from across the globe. Our office is based in the Midwest United States with staff in Chicago, IL and Lansing, MI. At present the staff are currently fully remote due to COVID-19. The Connectional Table also runs https://www.emergingmethodism.com/ The Emerging website seeks to provide a forum through an open-ended online conversation about what is emerging in United Methodism. Through this resource, the Connectional Table seeks to forge a compelling consensus shared by a vast global community of “think and let think” disciples of Jesus Christ, affirming and claiming Methodism’s essential convictions about what to teach, how to teach, who we are, and how—by the grace of God—United Methodists strive to live and be in ministry together. The website features topics of theology, polity, history and leadership.


Responsibilities

·     Lead at least two projects (as project manager) for the Connectional Table during the school year

·     Generate and publish content on our blog

·     Attend weekly staff meetings

·     Serve as project manager for special projects which includes tracking all aspects of the project and being the project lead from start to finish (including tracking the production process, coordinating with stakeholders and partners, leading meetings, providing project updates, coordinating layout or graphic design, etc.)

·     Other tasks as assigned

·     We will work with you to pick a project area in communications, board governance and engagement, organizational leadership, adaptive leadership, finance, education and training, research, or one of our value themes: Worldwide and Contextual, Vital and Effective, Affirming and Inclusive, and Connectional.

Requirements

·      Ability to communicate with people of different perspectives and from different cultures

·      Satisfied working independently and on a team

Preferred skills:

·      Analytical and multitasking skills

·      Knowledge or familiarity with The United Methodist Church

·      Experience with project management system Asana, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite

Work Hours & Benefits

Hours - 12-15 a week; between September 2020 – May 2021 (dates may be adjustable based on school year)

Remote due to COVID-19 (possibility to go into Rosemont, IL office)

Wages: $13.5-$16 based on experience and hours committed to work

Time off- 4 weeks (60 hours) (school break weeks are included in this number)

Add-ons: CT will pay for a Strengthfinder assessment; CT to provide computer or printer for use during internship; staff team building retreats

Reports to the Assistant Connectional Ministries Officer. We are willing to work with your educational institution to make sure you get course credit if needed.
