The AES World Languages and Cultures Institute [AWLCI] is seeking remote Teaching and Curriculum Development Interns for Spring 2020 to assist with our various language programs. AWLCI offers both free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes for individuals living in the Boston area, and medical Spanish courses for medical professionals that want to better communicate with Spanish-speaking patients. We are seeking interns for both programs. Interns will have the choice to work with either program, or both, depending on their interests and Spanish proficiency. The intern would receive support and training throughout the fall, and work under experienced language instructors. This is an ideal position for individuals interested in a career in language teaching.

The Language Teaching and Curriculum Development Intern would be responsible for both helping to develop activities and materials for the course, and for working with students one-on-one and in small group settings to compliment the material taught by the lead instructor for the course. The intern will gain significant experience in working directly with students by providing regular practice conversations to students and in curriculum development and teaching techniques.

This intern position runs from September to December 2020, and requires a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week. This is an unpaid internship, but can be used for college credit. Interns may be able to extend the internship into the Spring.

This position requires candidates to have the following qualifications:

  • Has completed least 1 year of college
  • English Fluency (and Spanish proficiency if seeking medical Spanish internship)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A positive, supportive, professional demeanor
  • A proactive, caring, positive, and energetic personality

The ideal candidate would also possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in remote tutoring or teaching
  • Demonstrated interest in working with vulnerable immigrant populations
  • Bilingual - English and Spanish
