About Compass:

Compass is a nonprofit organization that provides strategic consulting services to other nonprofits in the Greater Philadelphia, Greater Washington and Chicago areas. Compass provides pro bono consulting to local nonprofits by recruiting business professionals as volunteers. Compass volunteer teams strengthen nonprofits that work in many areas, including education, children and youth, health care, arts and culture, workforce development, and more.

This year, Compass Greater Philadelphia is working with approximately 50 nonprofits and over 250 volunteers, contributing more than $5 million of consulting services to the nonprofit sector, free of charge to the nonprofits.

Intern Responsibilities:

Intern activities may vary, depending in part on the intern’s interest and skills, but include working closely with Compass staff to:

  • Analyze volunteer and client surveys and present the findings to the Compass staff
  • Assist with data management in Salesforce
  • Review and modify Compass archive of project resources for volunteer teams
  • Research opportunities to support volunteer recruitment
  • Manage nonprofit client applications and prepare for client selection
  • Support marketing and communications initiatives, including drafting newsletters and creating social media posts
  • Assist with development activities including drafting grant reports
  • Other research, analysis, or administrative support as needed

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented

  • Experience working in social media management is a plus, but not required
  • An interest in nonprofits or consulting
  • Must have own laptop to use

Location: Compass Greater Philadelphia is working remotely for the time being. However, if we resume some in-person work, the team would meet at CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia (1315 Walnut Street, Suite 320, Philadelphia) following safe, socially distanced guidelines.

Dates: Late-May to late-August; however, the schedule can be modified if needed. There is an opportunity for the internship to extend into the Fall

Hours: 20 hours per week from May to August. If the internship extends into the Fall, hours will be kept between 5-10 per week. Interns will work Monday through Friday, during peak business hours (9:00-4:00). The schedule will be determined based on the intern’s availability and Compass needs.

Compensation: $15 per hour and available for college credit
