The Phoenix's mission is to foster a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from a substance use disorder and for those who choose to live sober. Through activities such as CrossFit, climbing, hiking, yoga, boxing, and meditation, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. The Phoenix offers free programs for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety, operating in 46 communities across the country and for people around the globe virtually. Since 2006, we have served 40,000 individuals.

The Rise Fellowship Program aims to increase equity in the nonprofit and recovery spaces, so we recruit applicants from diverse communities, particular people of color.

 

ABOUT THE FELLOW

Do you thrive in startup environments characterized by innovation, quick pivots, and nimble collaboration? Do you enjoy improving structures and systems on deadline? Are you a quick study with a talent for accuracy and efficient communications? If so, this might be the fellowship for you. The Legal Fellow will ideally be Denver-based and will assist our Chief Legal Officer in the following areas:

  • Contract drafting and review
  • Legal research on laws, rules and regulations that affect The Phoenix as we expand into new locations across the country
  • Designing and delivering legal trainings to the organization
  • Nonprofit board support
  • Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practices within the organization
  • Various in-house legal and HR duties

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience with legal research and contract drafting
  • Strong writing ability
  • Law degree
  • Denver residence or willingness to relocate preferred
  • A personal connection to our mission
  • Availability to start in either January or June
