BECA seeks qualified Program Administrators for the 2019 - 2020 school year in Honduras.
The BECA Program Administrator is an in-country team member charged with leading a team of motivated volunteers in a BECA community school. They are a creative and flexible person with proven management experience. The primary role of the Program Admin is to work as a liaison between BECA volunteer teachers and the Honduran staff at the school, both in logistical matters like calendar and staff meetings, and in cultural matters like assisting with event-planning for school holidays and supporting collaboration between a culturally-diverse staff. Additionally, the Administrator is responsible for overseeing and running the school scholarship program, which helps provide access to higher-level education to families from a wide variety of economic backgrounds within the community. For these reasons, the Administrator must be fluent in both Spanish and English, and feel comfortable speaking publicly, engaging in school board meetings, and having professional conversations with parents, teachers, and other staff in both languages.
- Ensuring that volunteers at assigned school-site perform their duties in a goal-oriented, culturally sensitive way, and that they act in a way that is consistent with the BECA mission
- Maintaining regular communication with the volunteer teachers, the Honduran School Director, and the partners at your assigned school site in order to support clear communication channels and growth of the school and its programs
- Working in coordination with the Honduran School Director to implement the school-wide discipline protocol, build teacher schedules, organize duties, coordinate school events, and plan monthly Staff Meetings
- Tracking important pedagogical and administrative information in a manner that allows for an efficient annual transition from one group of volunteers to the next year's group
- Supporting volunteers through covering classes as needed, in coordination with the Program Manager, when volunteers are absent due to illness or personal reasons
- Contributing regularly to BECA’s social media presence and online publications
- Communicating regularly with BECA’s In-Country Director to ensure needed supports are in place and to monitor the condition and quality of BECA programs
- Participating in organization-wide planning and development
- Overseeing and directing the BECADO student-scholarship program by organizing the point system and arranging systems for on-going communication and planning with involved parents
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- A commitment to BECA’s mission and a dedication to social justice
- No fewer than 2 years experience managing a team of peers, preferably in a professional role
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills (experience living in Latin America is preferred)
- Ability to manage a large team and solve problems in collaboration with In-Country Director and Program Manager
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Fluency in both written and spoken Spanish and English
- Willingness to operate in a low-resource environment under challenging living conditions
- Bachelor’s degree (Education or related field is preferred)

Currently, we collaborate with three different communities in two different regions of Honduras: Macuelizo, Santa Barbara; Vida Nueva, Cortes; and Cofradia, Cortes. Each school takes on a unique identity representative of its adjoining community, and partners work closely with BECA teachers and staff to provide cultural training that promotes united community engagement and cultural exchange.
