The Win Volunteer Services Program encompasses the recruitment, training, placement and coordination of volunteers who work throughout Win in various capacities as well as the cultivation and distribution of all in-kind donations to the organization. The Program matches Win client and staff needs with appropriate volunteers/donors (either individuals or groups) to create an enriching experience for clients, provide products/services/expertise that Win might not be able to afford/have access to and provide a supplementary workforce to ease staff workloads. Our volunteers are an essential part of the Win team and make a significant difference in the lives of the families we serve.
The Volunteer Services Intern is responsible for supporting the general administration and management of over 1,200 volunteers, which includes 30-60 events per month, in-kind donations, and other special projects under the direction of the Manager of Volunteer Services.. The job includes traveling to outer boroughs for programs and events during the weekday, weeknights, and weekends as offered. Will work closely with the three Coordinators, Manager, and Director on the team to ensure the success of the entire Volunteer Services Program.
Support with planning of volunteer events with individuals, corporations, and nonprofit organizations. This includes leading volunteer orientations and tracking event information in Volunteer Services’ Salesforce platform.
Spearhead volunteer events across shelters & supportive housing sites, serving as a point person for volunteers and onsite staff.
Support Coordinators with in-kind donations including the physical and logistical duties associated with deliveries, pick-ups, inspection, and distribution.
Support Donation Room operations, including preparing items for Win clients, folding, cleaning, general room organization, and assessing area(s) of highest need.
Assist in the coordination of the Backpack Buddies program, which serves over 2,000 of Win’s school-aged children, managing logistics and volunteer groups.
Assist in the administration of in-kind donations, including correspondence with donors, donation tracking procedures, and distribution to onsite staff and clients.
Assist with the Holiday Gift Program, which ensures that all Win children and adults receive gifts each holiday season.
Adherence to Volunteer Services’ trauma-informed care policies, which promote equity, collaboration, trustworthiness, empowerment, choice, and safety at Win.
Must be willing and able to travel throughout all boroughs.
Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and do significant physical work.
Ability to efficiently handle multiple projects at once
Excellent administrative and organizational skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent people skills and ability to be a team player
Proficient computer skills, including all MS Office applications, Outlook, and Internet
Salesforce and Smartsheet experience are a plus
Previous volunteer work experience preferred; previous retail experience helpful
Spanish speakers are a plus
