Open House New York is a nonprofit organization that promotes a greater appreciation of the city’s built environment by providing direct access to the sites and systems that define our city. Through year-round programs and annual OHNY Weekend festival, Open House New York celebrates the best examples of architecture, planning, preservation, engineering and community advocacy. Reaching an audience of more than 80,000 annually, Open House New York creates a civic platform that inspires curiosity, builds community and fosters a more informed conversation about how design can shape the future of New York.


Position Summary

We are looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial, personable intern who shares our passion for New York City and is ready to hit the ground running to support a full range of public-facing development, communications and event production activities at our small but fast-paced nonprofit.


Specific responsibilities may include:


o  Design and update sponsorship pitch decks;

o  Produce content for new website and social media, including “Open House New Yorker” profiles with individual supporters and champions;

o  Assist with all aspects of membership and donor acknowledgement;

o  Research information about potential foundation/corporate funders and individual donors/prospects using internet tools

o  Support event production, marketing and coordination. Sample summer events include: large-scale lectures, donor cocktail parties, architectural boat tours and project meetings.

o  Perform a variety of administrative tasks

o  For the right applicant, there will be additional opportunities to sit in on meeting with key stakeholders, participate in site visits and attend special events.




o  Strong interest in New York City design, planning and history.

o  Must be computer savvy, including social media experience and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of Salesforce a plus.

o  Excellent writing skills, including ability to interview and write profiles.

o  Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.

o  Ability to work quickly, be comfortable with ambiguity and adapt as needed.

o  Comfortable interacting with the public with exemplary customer service.

o  Previous office experience working for a nonprofit or startup.

o  Photography experience a bonus.


Internship is unpaid; small stipend available at the end of the season.
